Visit to Dobele Castle

Dobele Castle Nowadays Since 2002, architect Pēteris Blūms has worked on the vision of preservation and development of Dobele Livonian Order castle complex. He presented the first technical project for the reconstruction and preservation of the castle in 2009, but construction works were started in 2018. During the construction works archaeological research, preservation and construction of new infrastructure were carried out. During the works the architectural form of the castle was preserved as the current silhouette of the ruins. From a greater distance, the new roof elements do not change the perception of the overall silhouette of the body of the castle. From close distances, the parts of the new roof between the walls are perceived only fragmentarily, but in most angles – not perceived at all. In 2020, the chapel of the Order of the Livonian Castle of Dobele was put into operation, and the object has become a multifunctional centre for the development of culture, crafts and tourism. The castle has been reborn in a new form, in which the tinge of past and future interchanges, being in a constantly flowing movement, symbolizing our being here and now - between periods of history. One that has already passed and the other that has not yet been reached. The new mingles with the old and there is mutual respect. At the end of summer of 2021, Dobele Castle opens its doors to visitors...
