Latvian jazz-funk band “Very Cool People” featuring singer Aija Andrejeva are presenting new concert programm “Woodstock’s Ranaissance”
Janes Joplin, Jimmy Hendrix and Jim Morrison have made an indelible impact on 20th and 21st century music - rock, jazz and contemporary music. Therefore, the new concert program is not only entertaining, but also educational. With its help, younger listeners will get to know legendary compositions, but older ones will remember youth and the sexual revolution!
The group "Very Cool People" has created a new, modern and exciting arrangements of songs by Joplin, Hendrix and Morrison for eight people together with the great singer Aija Andrejeva which also has a strong emotional connection with the songs to be performed."Janice Joplin was a prill, an absolute person of senses, wrong in everything she did, because she did it with her heart and against the system," says Aija."When I was a little girl, I told my Dad I wanted to sing, and he replied: 'When you can sing at least one song like Janes Joplin, we'll talk about your singing. So, influenced by my Dad, I started to listen to Janes and fell in love with her, her voice and her personality.
Thanks to Janes, I realized how unimportant really external image is, because music and story speaks above all else.I have always had the idea to make a program with Joplin's favorite songs. Now I feel that the time is right and I can really make it happen.’’
The concert program with the songs of Janes Joplin at the festival "Riga Rhythms 2020" was very appreciated by both - listeners and representatives of the music industry from Latvia, Lithuania and Germany, including Christoph Giz, a reviewer of Germany's largest jazz magazine “Jazzthetik”, who was delighted with such a saturated and vital interpretation of Joplin's songs."People liked it, it was entertaining, it was fun and I heard what I didn't expect to hear," Gize said."It was a great performance with funky guys in the background and strong vocal singer in the foreground."
The new concert program "Woodstock Renaissance" was created as an excursion in such a historical period of popular music. Along with Aija Andrejeva- the owner of the strong voice, trombonist Laura Rozenberga also will sing in this concert program.
